Introducing the new SRS Selection Index — a new tool designed to help stud and commercial sheep producers make more informed breeding decisions.
Developed by SRS Genetics in collaboration with sheep geneticist Dr Mark Ferguson of neXtgen Agri, the index brings together 22 traits focused on production, resilience, carcase quality, wool quality and reproduction.
By simplifying the complexity of Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) into clearer production outcomes, the SRS Selection Index helps breeders match the right rams and ewes to their breeding objectives.
SRS Genetics Chairman Norm Smith says the index complements the SRS focus on visual selection for density and length, providing another tool to support the development of profitable, ethical and resilient breeding flocks.
